THE MOM BEHIND THE BLOG
Hey, fellow Momma. My name is Alicia. I am a small town girl from Southeast Missouri where I live with my love, Matt, and our four children.
Here we are on one of our very first dates. We won first place at a costume contest! Such young’uns then!!
Over the last decade, we have built a cozy, sometimes chaotic, little life for ourselves. Our kids are Lorelai (8), Jocelyn (5), Gideon (3), and Killian (1). Things around here are always busy and only quiet after bedtime.
THE STORY BEHIND THE BLOG
Over the last several years I have been trying to shape out some ideas regarding what I want to spend my life pursuing. My degree is in social work, but I have been a SAHM since Jocelyn was born, and I wasn’t convinced that I wanted to return to social work after all of our kids went to school. So the question became, what will I do when life isn’t all diapers and cheerios and messes and naps?
As a mom of four little ones, most of my identity for over 7 years has come from being “mommy.” But since entering motherhood I have had a hard time defining myself further than that. Now, I know that is completely enough. If I raise four strong, independent and functional adults, that will be beautiful and completely enough. But I couldn’t shake the fear of not knowing who I would be when I was “done” being a mom. Who would I be when they were grown and didn’t need me 100% of the time? That is what set me on this road.
So, with encouragement from this guy (I know, I’m one lucky girl, huh? ;),
and a cup of tea in hand, I decided to make a list of my life goals.
I won’t share each and every item on the list yet, but I will tell you, it was a very intense exercise in self-exploration. After much reflection, in one quiet moment, I realized the dream. I held a deep desire to be a voice for other women, moms especially. I wanted to do something to speak into the lives of moms who are in the trenches and feeling lonely and overwhelmed.
Mommin’ ain’t easy and sometimes as women (mothers or not) we spend so much time taking care of those we love, that we forget to fill our own cup.
My goal here at LoveYouMore is to be a force that can help women like myself navigate the winding road of motherhood and relationships, while also not neglecting their own well-being…specifically, I want to help you learn to love YOU more (clever, eh?). So the dream was there…but from which rooftop would I shout my grand ideas? I wasn’t sure where to begin. Last year at this time I had almost settled on beginning a blog, but I had a newborn and life happened.
Here is my babiest baby on his first Christmas! It is hard to believe he just turned 2…
And here is what life looks like for us most of the time…
However, over the summer (2016) it was time. Opportunity stared me in the face, and I jumped. I started with a Facebook page called Love You More Blog. With a little marketing genius fueling the effort, we have grown to nearly 13,000 likes!
The mission here has been to create an environment where we can come together and just be. Whether that meant laughing or crying or having a complete mom meltdown. Here the idea is coming to life.
So here we are, the beginning of a new chapter. A blog.
The focus here will be to help women learn to be amazing at life through self care (loving YOU more), understanding the differences in the male and female operating systems and how that influences our relationships, and how all of the above affect the way we parent our children.
I love the written word, so a blog just makes sense. I am so excited to finally be making it a reality! As for the future, stay tuned!! Because this is just the beginning!
My little sweeties. 🙂
HERE ARE 6 OTHER THINGS YOU PROBABLY DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME…
- Matt and I are not married. Yep, that’s right. We have never made it down the aisle, but we have been happily “un”married for going on 10 years.
- I LOVE Gilmore Girls. Seriously love it. I binged watched it (DVD style) with my mom when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter. That is why we proudly bestowed the name”Lorelai” on her. It is still my “go to” show.
- I wish that a hot cup of tea could be in my hand ALL. OF. THE. TIME. Specifically English Breakfast with a bit of sugar and a splash of milk.
- I would (not-so) secretly LOVE to be a companion on Doctor Who.
- I hate the feeling of ice cubes on my fingernails. Yep. Turns out I even shudder at the thought.
- I believe crossing items off of a list is one of the best feelings in the world.
NOW THAT YOU HAVE GOTTEN TO KNOW ME, I HAVE SOMETHING ELSE I WANT TO SHARE BEFORE YOU GO…
I just want to thank you so much for stopping by my site!
